Have you jumped on the “Kimetsu no Yaiba” (Demon Slayer) bandwagon yet? We have, and we are OBSESSED with it! Would you believe it if I told you that I read the entire manga (available with subscription…Viz Media) in 3 DAYS. It was THAT good. When we were planning out these nails, I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t recall the exact color scheme of the outfit….then I realized it was because the manga was black and white. Manga was so good I literally thought I had watched the ANIME. Has that ever happened to you?
Eitherway, we are super bummed that all our conventions were cancelled this year. One by one, we got notification of their cancellation….Fanime Con, Anime Expo, Crunchy Roll….. But we know that safety comes first, and that now we have a whole year to plan our next cosplay!
Going back to our cosplay fun, we had a cool anime nailart series to showcase at our next con. Today we’ll share our Tanjiro Kamado inspired nails and how we made them!
Prep nails! Always start with clean dry nails! Wash with soap and water, or use an alcohol swab to remove any dirt and oils. Apply a basecoat and allow it to dry.
Gather your nail strips! This is a great way to use up all the extra pieces you have. The ones below are what you’ll need for each hand. The Red Vixen and Black strip can be shared for both hands
Lets start with the Tanjiro’s signature demon slayer outfit! There are two ways to do this : 1) Put the Neptune strip on your nail and then place the Ready Set Go overlay on top of it. Alternatively, 2) You have apply the checkered overlay on top of the Neptune strip first, THEN apply the double layer to your nail!
Next, well make the Tanjiro’s hanafuda earrings! This was a bit trickier.
Tip: Make sure you removed that clear plastic protector from the strip before punching it. It’ll be next to impossible to remove it afterwards since the piece is so small.
Use your scissor to cut a semi-circle out of the Earl Grey. Place that mid way down the Snow White strip.
Cut thin strips from the Black to make the rays. (Ignore our drawn in lines in the image…we wanted to use a fine point sharpie to draw it in, but we couldn’t find the sharpie and used a fine tip ball point pen instead… This didn’t work because the strips are shiny and not absorbent. The pen ended up smudging…oops).
And there you have it –awesome Demon Slayer inspired cosplay nails! Let us know if you like this design, and whether you’d like to see more tutorials!
